Research and professional accomplishments: Enrico Monti currently teaches Translation Studies and English at the University of Bologna and the University of Udine (Italy). In 2007 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institut de Recherche en Langues et Littératures Européennes (ILLE) of the Université de Haute-Alsace (France), and in 2005 he was a Marco Polo fellow at Brown University (Providence, RI). As an undergraduate, he studied abroad at the Centre for Russian Language and Culture (St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, 1998) and the University of California at Berkeley (1999-2000) and in 2001 he was awarded a dissertation scholarship to research Raymond Carver’s manuscripts at Indiana University in Bloomington. He is a regular contributor of Bibliography of Translation Studies (TSA/BTS) and has published articles on translation, American literature, and cognitive linguistics: "Translating the Metaphors We Live By: Intercultural Negotiations in Conceptual Metaphors" in EJES 13:2 (2009), "Il miglior fabbro? On Gordon Lish’s Editing of Raymond Carver’s What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" in Raymond Carver Review 1 (2007); "Dwelling upon Metaphors: The Translation of William Gass’s Novellas" in Nordic Journal of English Studies 5:1 (2006), and "Metaphors for Metaphor Translation", "Métaphores spatiales dans le discours sur la traduction: la cinétique de la littérature traduite" (under press). He is also a literary translator and has published Italian translations of fictions by George Hagen, ZZ Packer, Amiri Baraka, William Gass, Brian Evenson and Richard Brautigan
